Band Bio

The Plates is a Punk/Reggae collaboration between original Samples drummer Jeep MacNichol and Uk/Bronx vocalist Stero Lion. The lineup includes drummer Jeep MacNichol (originally from Toledo, Ohio), bassist Ian Anderson (originally from Kingston Jamaica) and vocalist Stero Lion (originally from England/The Bronx).

MacNichol kicked off his music career as the original drummer for Colorado based band The Samples (1987-1997). After a decade of touring and 6 album releases including a live appearance on the Jay Leno Show, he left the band and created “Mr. Anonymous” (2003-2011), releasing three Dancehall/Dub flavored albums with singers from Jamaica and the UK. He worked with and co-wrote all the original material with musicians Bounty Killer, Barrington Levy, Ranking Roger(The English Beat), Sly&Robbie, and a host of other Jamaican legends. In 2012, MacNichol moved to Denver Colorado to form a Punk/Reggae band and began work on the new project with a singer named Stero Lion under the band name The Plates.

Stero Lion, born of Jamaican and Trinidadian parents, grew up in England until the age of 11 when he moved to the Bronx New York. His music began with toasting on various local Sound Systems. After moving to Denver in his 20′s, Stero held the resident Reggae Dj chair at 1190 AM radio in Boulder, Colorado. In 2000, he joined Heavyweight Dub Champion as a vocalist and frontman until 2007.

The band has released 3 albums “Punky Reggae”(2014), “Earth Moon Version”(2015), and “Blast”(2017) along with 4 music videos.
